CHILDREN and staff at St Hedda’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Egton welcomed the Bishop of Middlesbrough who came to visit them for the first time since he took over the diocese.

The bishop, the Right Reverend Terence Drainey talked to the children about his work and the vestments he wears, including his mitre and the crozier he carries and blessed candles for each of the 29 pupils in the school.

He also held a question and answer session with them. Head teacher Marie Palmer said they all enjoyed his visit.
