The daughters of a regular Dutch visitor to Whitby are hoping to meet up with the friends he met in the town when they visit in the spring.

From 1985 until 1991, Herman de Vries from the Netherlands frequently visited Whitby on his sailing yacht Kim.

His three daughters Willemijn, Hester and Tjallien de Vries said in an email to the Gazette: “He was very fond of the beautiful town and the friendly people who lived there.

“He told us a lot of stories about his trips and the people he met.

“In 1992, he sadly died in a horse riding accident.

“We, his three daughters, are going to visit Whitby as a tribute to our dad.

“It would be great if we could meet people who have known our father during the time he visited the town he loved so much. Unfortunately we don’t have any names or addresses.”

The three woman are going to be in Whitby from April 17 to 19.

The trio want to know if there is anyone locally who knows something about their father, to get in touch.
