A by-election is taking place today to choose a new borough councillor for Whitby's Mulgrave Ward.

The vacancy has arisen following the resignation of Conservative councillor Marie Harland.

The candidates standing in today's election are:

- John Armsby (Independent)

- Lee Derrick (The Yorkshire Party)

- Hugo Fearnley (Labour Party)

- Marion Watson (Conservative Party)

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at the election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must be submitted to the team by 5pm today.

To be eligible, the physical incapacity, or becoming aware of being unable to go to a polling station in person on the grounds of work/service, must have occurred after 5pm on Friday 18 August.
