A REGULAR visitor to Whitby is hoping to solve the mystery of a number of strange circular shapes which she spotted on the beach at her favourite local beauty spot.
Brenda Wright, of Colchester, often visits Runswick Bay, but on her last visit she was intrigued to discover the previously unnoticed indentations.
She said “The tide was out further than it had been during previous visits, and we were surprised to find what appeared to be a large slab of concrete at the end of the beach. This had approximately 20 holes cut into it.”
“Some seemed to have the centres cut out, and others appeared to be cut out, but with a smaller lid put back.”
The discovery was made last September, and attracted the attention of several beach-goers who paused to examine and photograph the markings.
After almost a year of fruitless investigation, she remains stumped as to the origins of the unidentified craters.
Brenda is hoping that someone holds the key to this mystery, and would appreciate it if anyone could identify these unusual markings.
Have you seen these strange shapes? Do you know what they are? If so, the Whitby Gazette would love to hear from you.
