A TROLLEY dash was held around a Whitby supermarket on Sunday to help former Aelfleda Terrace resident Jude Knight.
The Co-operative supermarket’s annual trolley dash was this year won by the Rotary Club of Whitby’s Geoff McInerny, who chose to donate the prize to Ms Knight.
However, due to health problems she was unable to complete the dash by herself, so Whitby fire brigade’s John Staniforth sprinted around the store on her behalf.
The run took place on Sunday morning, before the store opened, and the fireman was able to gather around items worth £275 for Ms Knight, including general household items such as pots and pans, which she was unable to rescue from her home. She said: “I asked for the stuff that you go to your cupboard for, the stuff that you need but that was no longer there.”
She thanked Mr McInerny and Mr Staniforth, as well as the Co-op and everyone else involved, for their generous gifts.
