Youngsters from Danby School got a treat today - an early finish and a trip to Castleton to watch stage one of Tour de Yorkshire.

Headteacher Clive Hellawell said: “The children are very excited, they’ve made a banner and can’t wait to see Bradley Wiggins.

“They are also proud that Mike Thompson, who some of them know, will be in the race.”

What makes them even more proud is that Mike, a native of Moorsholm, once went to their school.

“The children realise that this is a big race, with competitors like Kettel who won one of the stages in the Tour de France, and that it is full of international racers,” said Mr Hellawell.
