A multi-agency search is taking place in Whitby today (Dec 28) following reports of a missing person.
The search has centred around Larpool Viaduct after police grew concerned about the whereabouts of a man, believed to be aged in his forties.
The man’s silver car was found near the viaduct in the early hours of Saturday and Coastguard teams from Whitby and Staithes, as well as Whitby’s inshore RNLI lifeboat, were launched to aid in the search.
Search and rescue teams were tasked to search the woods around the viaduct at 2.30am and then again at 9.30am, while the in-shore lifeboat searched along the Esk as far as Ruswarp and Coates Marine.
The Coastguard team was stood down by North Yorkshire Police at around 12.30pm, but Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team have continued to search for the missing man.
More details to follow.
