Suspended sentence for nightclub handbag thief

A Hinderwell man pleaded guilty to the theft of a handbag when he appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on April 25.

On February 22 this year, Alexander Standell (21) of Moor View Court, stole a gold handbag containing £100, a bank card and a lip gloss to the value of £130.

The offence was committed at the Blue Lounge bar in Scarborough and was committed jointly with another man, named Anthony Hopkirk.

Standell received a 12-week sentence, suspended for a year. He was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and must pay compensation to his victim of £130.
