Police are appealing for Whitby people to help them in their search for a missing local man.
Ian Gibbon (43) has not been seen since around 10pm on Friday night and police say they are concerned for his welfare and are urging anyone who has seen him to contact them.
He was last seen at his home in Stainsacre and officers have been searching for him in and around the Whitby area.
His car, a silver Vauxhall Zafira, has been located at the side of the road in Larpool Lane, but Ian has still not been found.
Last night searches continued in Whitby and Scarborough and officers are also exploring the possibility that he may have taken a taxi to Middlesbrough in the early hours of Saturday.
Yesterday coastguard teams from Whitby and Staithes, as well as Whitby’s inshore RNLI lifeboat, were launched to aid in the search.
Search and rescue teams were tasked to search the woods around the viaduct at 2.30am and then again at 9.30am, while the in-shore lifeboat searched along the Esk as far as Ruswarp and Coates Marine.
Members of the public are urged to keep an eye out for Ian and get in touch with the police if they see anyone matching his description.
He is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall, with a medium build, short black hair, brown eyes and a pale complexion.
It is believed Ian is wearing blue jeans, a dark green hooded top and brown Adidas trainers.
Anyone who has seen Ian since Friday night is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 1 - and pass information to the Force Control Room.
