Police praised for detection rates

NORTH Yorkshire Police came fourth in England and Wales for detecting distraction burglary.

Of the 46 crimes reported in the county for April 2010 to the end of March 2011 a total of 18 cases (39%) were detected.

Distraction burglary is usually aimed at old and vulnerable people and to help prevent incidents NYP is promoting the Nominated Neighbour Scheme.

It encourages elderly and vulnerable residents to seek assistance from a trusted neighbour to help deal with cold callers by checking the callers identity.
