A WHITBY school was closed this morning after the body of a man in his fifties was discovered on the premises.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said that police were called to Airy Hill School at 8.10am following the report of a sudden death.
He added: “On arrival they found the body of a local man. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.
“We are not yet in a position to release any further details and will keep you informed.”
North Yorkshire Police were later able to confirm that the man was in his fifties, but could not release his identity until the family was informed.
In the wake of the incident Airy Hill School was immediately closed. Parents were informed that it will remain closed until Wednesday 13 February.
However, Pebbles Playgroup will reopen on Tuesday 12 February.
