A MINIBUS completely demolished a bus stop and wall after it spun out of control on the A174 near Raithwaite Hall at around 6pm Wednesday.

Three people were in the vehicle – a 53-year-old Whitby man was taken by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries. He is believed to have suffered severe spinal back and pelvic injuries but is reported as being in a stable condition.

The 31-year-old driver of the van and a 58-year-old passenger, both of Whitby, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Members of the RNLI lifeguard team stopped to provide first aid at the scene and have been praised for their efforts.

PC Martin Recchia TC1469 is appealing for any witnesses to get in touch by calling 101 and selecting option 2.

The same day a collision occured on Royal Crescent, Whitby, involving a seven-year-old local boy and a Honda Civic, driven by a 21-year-old Whitby man. The accident happened at 3.10pm and the boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to Whitby hospital as a precaution.
