TWO people are now on bail following a swoop by police on a drugs raid on a Whitby pub.
Several police cars and dog teams executed a warrant at the Middle Earth Tavern on Church Street on Tuesday.
A man aged 44 was arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply a Class A drug and a woman aged 47, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug.
They were taken to custody in Scarborough and have since being released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
The substances found have been sent off for analysis in a laboratory. Until the test results are known police can’t say what the drugs were.
Insp Andy Colbourne of Whitby Police told the Gazette that there will be more police action carried out over the next few weeks in connection to the supply of drugs.
He said: “There will be a number of other warrants executed. I want people to know that we will get warrants and execute them at every opportunity to disrupt the supply of drugs in the Whitby area.”
Insp Colbourne added that while drugs wasn’t a major problem in Whitby it wouldn’t be tolerated.
He said: “Drugs compared to last year has been reduced but it is still one of our priorities. We have done a number of warrants in recent weeks.”
