A prominent Whitby businessman who operated one of the town’s largest estate agents, died at the weekend.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called at 1.25pm on Sunday 2 June 2013, to an address at Spital Bridge, Whitby, following the report of a sudden death.
“On arrival they found the body of a 59-year-old local man, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.”
Although police are not yet in a position to release the man’s identity, he has been named locally as Edward Astin, director of the Flowergate estate and lettings agency.
The spokesperson added: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and no one else is being sought in connection with the incident.
“A file will be prepared on behalf of the coroner.”
Edward Astin, managing director of Astin’s, has been in the property business since leaving University back in 1974 and moved to Whitby as a Chartered Surveyor to join G. A. Suffield & Co in 1980.
Astin’s was founded in 1992, expanding successfully year by year, diversifying into all aspects of residential and commercial sales, lettings, management, valuation and surveying.
