CRIME in Whitby has gone down 14 per cent compared to this time last year.
Statistics released by Whitby police say while crime has dropped the amount of detections has also increased by five per cent and anti-social behaviour incidents have seen a five per cent reduction.
Insp Andy Colbourne said: “Under the new shift structure that was implemented in March, Whitby has seen an increase in the numbers of police officers and PCSO’s patrolling the streets and rural locations at key times.
“This has been instrumental in achieving such reductions and enabled officers to deal robustly with offenders. The structure also enables more interaction with residents, visitors, youths and proprietors.
“We would encourage all Whitby residents to report anything that they feel negatively affects the community and we will maximise every opportunity to deal with such reports in an effective and fair manner.”
