A CONSTRUCTION site near Sneaton was “attacked” recently.
Overnight, between 4pm on 4 June and 7.30am on 5 June, thieves targeted the secure site, damaging plant machinery and stealing several hundred litres of red diesel and five heavy duty batteries.
Whitby Police Sgt John Webb said: “You would struggle to lift these on your own, so they have been there some time.”
Groundwork was taking place at the site to prepare it for a temporary Potash drilling rig, but a spokesperson for York Potash said that he did not believe that the site was targeted in protest of plans to build a mine along between Whitby and Scarborough.
Anyone who has any information relating to the thefts is urged to contact Whitby Police by calling 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
