The seeds are being planted for the council’s former nursery site to be sold off for a housing development.
The brownfield site at Holly Tree Court, between Byland Road and Stakesby Vale, is being marketed on behalf of Scarborough Borough Council by agents Bruton Knowles who are based at Northallerton .
Ginny Stockill from Bruton Knowles said regenerating the site would deliver much needed new homes – without making further demands on green space.
She said: “We are anticipating high interest in the site at Holly Tree Court as the housing market in the North East continues to gain momentum.
“Whitby is a great place to live with a high proportion of holiday lets which has tended to keep the housing market strong.
“The site at Holly Tree Court is handy for the town centre, schools and shops.”
On the plot of land there is currently a set of single storey storage and workshop buildings plus greenhouses and hard standing from when it was used by the borough council’s parks and gardens department, but has been vacant for some years.
Ginny said unconditional offers are being sought in excess of £300,000.
Offers must be received by the borough council by January 26, 2016.
