Burglars broke into homes on Aelfleda Terrace last Thursday.
The targeted homes were those which escaped demolition following serious landslides below the Victorian jetworkers’ cottages in November 2012.
Three holiday cottages were broken into, with police not yet sure whether any items have been taken.
The break-ins occurred at around 11.30pm when a member of the public reported seeing torchlight near one of the properties.
When officers attended, they found that entry had been forced to the cottages through the front doors.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire police said: “Officers are investigating the break-ins and are appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area to contact them with information.”
Anyone who can help police with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Neil Graham or Whitby police.
