THOUSANDS of pounds were raised at nineteen coffee mornings in Whitby and the surrounding area in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Macmillan’s fundraising manager in Whitby, Sally Millington, said “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was a fantastic success. I would like to thank everyone who took part.
“Once again the people of Whitby got behind us whole-heartedly, helping us raise thousands of pounds to fund our services.
“We rely almost entirely on donations, and without all the hard work from our coffee morning hosts and goodwill from those who go along to their events, we wouldn’t be able to keep offering the fantastic services that so many people rely on.”
UK-wide the charity is hopeful it has hit its target of £8.5m with £4,235 raised so far around Whitby and an estimated £1,000 still to be donated.
The money raised will be used to fund Macmillan’s vital cancer services including specialist nurses, a nurse-run support line and financial advice and support for cancer patients.
Fundraising manager Sally added: “I would urge anyone who is still to donate any money raised from their coffee morning to send it as soon as possible please, so we can start using the money to fund vital cancer support services.
“This was the 21st year Macmillan Cancer Support has held the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and it only seems to get more popular.
“I’m sure next year’s event will be even bigger and better.”
