A PENSIONER is recovering at home thanks to a team of anonymous good Samaritans who came to her aid when she slipped on ice on the swing bridge.

They helped Christine Hodgkinson into a taxi and sent her to the minor injuries unit at Whitby Hospital, even paying the fare for her after she fell last Thursday morning.

She was treated at the hospital for a torn ligament and is now on the road to recovery back at home at Meadowfields at Sandsend.

Mrs Hodgkinson said: “I would like to thank all the passers-by who helped me, especially one lady, a complete stranger, who ran and got the taxi.

“When I arrived at the hospital I was told that this lady had already paid my fare.

“I didn’t expect her to pay for it at all and think it makes a lovely change from all the bad things you hear in the paper.”

Mrs Hodgkinson would also like to thank the staff at the hospital, who she said were “quick and brilliant”.
