Charity bike ride for a FAB cause

A 450 mile charity bike ride will leave Whitby on Sunday raising money to provide much needed breaks for bereaved military families.

Family Activity Breaks (FAB) organise holidays for the children and families of servicemen and women who have been killed in action or as a result of injuries.

The organisation started up in 2009 and Whitby is one of the venues that hosts families in need of a holiday as well as providing them with the opportunity to meet other children and families going through the same experience.

Families take part in walks, talks, rafting, abseiling, zip-wires and coasteering among other activities.

FAB holidays are subsidised by the Youth Hostel Association in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces.

It costs £50 for a week-long FAB holiday and is paid for through the subsidy and extra fundraising.

The 28 riders will leave Whitby on Sunday and are due to arrive in Twickenham on Saturday 7 May.
