Whitby shoppers to be quids in

thirty new jobs have been created with the announcement that Poundland will be opening up in Whitby next month.

The discount chain store opens in the old Nisa building on Flowergate on Thursday 5 May.

To help kick off the celebrations, there is a family fun day on Saturday 7 May when Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock aka ‘Marlon Dingle’ - will get the party started signing autographs and having his picture taken with local fans.

From 10am he will be giving out £1 vouchers, which shoppers can exchange for anything from a pack of Kodak batteries to a greeting cards.

As well as opportunities to win Poundland goodies there will be an instore DJ and entertainer giving away balloons and sweets.

Poundland’s trading director, David Coxon, said: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Whitby.
