STAFF have been left jobless after a popular Whitby pub closed suddenly.
The Dolphin in Bridge Street called time on Saturday 1 October and has been shut ever since.
On Wednesday, officials were seen coming in and out of the pub and notices have been put up in the window for the attention of Telen Services Ltd. The Gazette understands is the company run by the Dolphin’s landlord, Simon Thomas.
The notices went on to say: “You take notice that your landlord has this 12/10/11 exercised their right to today peaceably re-enter and take possession of these premises known as Dolphin Hotel, Bridge Street, Whitby, YO22 4BG.
“And lease, agreement or license is hereby determined.”
There were around five members of staff employed at the pub, which is popular with tourists over the summer and the followers of the Goth weekend due to its central location.
It is believed staff were given their P45s in the days running up to the pub’s closure.
A spokesperson for Punch Taverns, the pub’s owners, told the Gazette: “The licensee left for personal reasons.
“Our priority is to re-open the pub as soon as possible and we have a new licensee already lined up.”
