A building society in Whitby will once again be helping to save lives at sea as it backs the RNLI for its fund-raising campaign.

The Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) Group is extending its Charity of the Year partnership with the lifeboat charity into 2013 after raising £200,000 over the past 12 months - £814 of which was collected at its branch in Flowergate.

The money raised last year was the highest total achieved in the YBS’s history through a national fund-raising campaign.

Last week, YBS re-launched its Charity of the Year campaign for 2013 at its Whitby branch where the team will be holding money-spinning activities throughout the year and selling RNLI items to raise money.

New manager of the Whitby branch Faye Thompson said: “Our relationship with the RNLI has been a great success and we’re thrilled to be continuing it for another year to increase our total raised even further.

“The service the RNLI provides at sea and inland is truly invaluable so I am proud that we are able to show our support once again for this charity.

“I hope all our customers and members of the public who supported our fund-raising campaign last year will help us push on to make a really fantastic donation to the RNLI at the end of 2013.”
