Shop chips in to record double award success!

A RENOWNED Whitby fish and chip outlet has battered the opposition again to land two top national accolades.

Quayside, in Pier Road, netted the honour of being named third best business in the country at the National Fish and Chip Awards.

The shop, which has previously scooped an array of major awards, chipped in again in the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year category at a ceremony in London’s Park Plaza Hotel.

However, the outlet was given another boost after it landed the Training and Development Award.

Carol Fusco, managing director of the company, which has also been a finalist in the Independent Restaurant of the Year category, said she was overwhelmed by their continued success.

She said: “We are delighted because these awards are like the Oscars of the fish and chip world. You don’t get any higher than this, it really is the crème de la crème of the industry.

“To receive the award for training and development is equally as fantastic and it reward for our constant hard work.

“This is what we do on a day to day basis, our standards are always extremely high. We are always looking to go that extra mile.”

The company fought against nine other top-class fish and chip outlets in the best business category, which was won by Seniors near Blackpool.

Stuart Fusco, a previous recipient of the Seafish Young Fish Frier of the Year Award, said the award was a tremendous boost.

He added: “Coming third place main category is a fantastic achievement for the team and after a busy summer, the award has been a great incentive to push our high standards to the next level.

“To hold the title of third place in the whole of the country will have a positive effect on the whole area.

“It will help to bring in more tourists who will travel to Whitby for an award-winning takeaway.

“It’s further proof that Whitby is the fish and chip capital of the world.

“Many of our team have been with us for a number of years and it is thanks to their commitment and great work that we continue to collect these great achievements.”
