Sandbeck allowed to vary licence

A WHITBY guest house’s application to vary the terms of its licence in relation to selling alcohol and providing entertainment has been approved.

The Sandbeck guest house on Crescent Terrace wanted the licence to include the sale of alcohol for consumption on or off the premises and provision of regulated indoor entertainment and provision of entertainment facilities.

At a meeting of Scarborough Borough Council’s licensing committee it was agreed the licence should be granted but selling booze should be restricted to residents of the premises and their bona fide guests, people attending a private and prebooked function and people having a table meal and a drink with that meal.

The police are trying to limit the number of licensed premises in a built up area, which The Sandbeck falls into, but the council report said: “The sub-committee believed that following negotiations between the applicant and North Yorkshire Police, and the agreed conditions resulting from the same, the premises will not add to the cumulative impact on the area.”

The licence also covers provision of regulated indoor entertainment and provision of entertainment facilities.
