A section of Brunswick Street will be closed to traffic from Monday (18 March).

The closure is due to essential emergency repairs to Whitby’s gas main system and is expected to take seven days to complete.

Mark Coe, Northern Gas Networks network officer said: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to motorists for any inconvenience caused while this essential work is carried out. This work is vital to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses in Whitby. We know that no one likes road works and we always strive to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum.”

Anyone who smells gas is instructed to call the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.
