A WHITBY jeweller has pledged its support to the town’s regatta celebrations by creating a set of special edition sterling silver pins.

Church Street jeweller W Hamond presented the Whitby Regatta committee members with pins featuring the regatta logo as a gift in line with their on-going support of the event.

Boutique manager Sally Robinson said: “We are delighted to have been able to gift these pins to the regatta committee as a symbol of our on-going support.

“Local events such as the regatta are key to keeping the town’s economy thriving, by bringing thousands of people into the town.

“This is beneficial to all businesses in and around the area and we are keen to support this event to help ensure it continues to prosper for many years to come.”

The support is a welcome boost for the regatta committee, who face a constant battle to raise the funds to ensure the regatta can take place.

Not only are donations essential if spectacular sights such as the Red Arrows are to return to the town, but the committee must also find funding for other essential elements such as St John’s Ambulance cover.

Ivor Greer, regatta committee vice-president said: “We are honoured to receive these pins.

“It is fantastic to have the all-important support of local businesses such as W Hamond, without which the regatta would not be possible, and we are very pleased that they will be supporting us once again this year.”
