Old Resolution a new addition at Lockers
The Fortuna, now renamed Resolution by new owners Lockers Trawlers
A Whitby trawler is Our Lass no more after departing for pastures new.
Our Lass II has relocated to Eire, where she will start a new career prawn fishing on the Irish Sea.
The boat has been temporarily replaced by Resolution, formerly the Fortuna of Lerwick in the Shetlands, which will pair trawl with another recent addition, the Advance.
These vessels form part of an expanding fleet at the Whitby company Lockers Trawlers, which is about to place an order with Parkol Marine for a brand new vessel, to be christened Our Lass III.
Skipper James Locker said: “Our Lass III won’t be ready for a year so we’ve bought an older boat to keep us in work.
“Resolution is 30 years old but she’s in good condition because she’s only done sea netting.
“The proposal is to get her trawling with the Advance for 12-18 months and then we’ll move to Our Lass III.
“Then we’ll keep Resolution within the business and maybe look for a skipper, which will be a good opportunity for someone in our business to step up to the mark.”
Our Lass III will be designed by Parkol director Ian Paton and will be larger than its predecessor, at 24metres by 8metres.
The skipper has also promised that it will feature the trademark Manchester United emblem, adding: “Getting a new boat is always good, we always class it as trouble free for the first four years.
“It’ll have a modern design and a large propeller so it will be a larger boat with the same running costs as Our Lass II.”
Registered as WY261, Our Lass II fished from Whitby for four years after being built by Parkol Marine in 2007.
It has now been purchased by Ivan and Eamon Wilde who will fish from the Irish port of Skerries.
Advance is a 26.5m pair-steiner built in 1987.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 07:47 PMLaugh! ,, I thawt me troosers wud niver dry when I read the post from darkstairs, and so true too, I reckon the poor poster from the republic will be wondering what language the post is in. Its great to see Lockers Trawlers and Parkol Marine keeping traditional industries going in the town, and with the fishing school aswell there is some hope for the future.

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 09:10 PMThe boat is gone to Skerries... In Ireland and not Eire... Why do the English insist on calling the Republic of Ireland, Eire and then call the Sea between us the Irish Sea. I live on the Island of Ireland or if I am being politically correct, in the Republic of Ireland.... Is there some shame in admitting that Ireland is a Republic hence calling it Eire? Eireann is Gaelic for Ireland not the name for the country in English
