New regional director appointed for Alliance

A NEW regional director who will cover Yorkshire has been appointed to the Countryside Alliance.

Simon Hamlyn took up post at the end of last month and will cover the whole of the North of England including Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and Derbyshire as well as Yorkshire.

He spent the previous ten years working for the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) where he was involved in many aspects of rural pursuits including shooting, conservation, standards and training, game fairs and events, game as food and rural development.

Mr Hamlyn has also been a keen supporter of hunting following the High Peak, Cheshire Forest and the Cheshire Hunts.

In his new role he will be concentrating on five key areas such as local solutions to the lack of affordable housing, enabling all children to gain a practical understanding of the countryside, support for British farmers and producers, championing all country pastimes and pursuits and ensuring an accessible and reliable transport network.

Simon commented: “I very much enjoyed my time at BASC and I am delighted to now be a part of the Countryside Alliance team. I am very much looking forward to meeting and working with as many members and supporters as possible. I am here to represent them, their views and to ensure a strong voice for the wide range of issues currently affecting the countryside.”
