Whitby will get a new pub and hotel on the outskirts of town after it was given the go-ahead by councillors.
Pub chain Marston’s has been granted permission for the pub and restaurant and 24 bedroomed hotel.
At a meeting of the planning board last week the committee voted in favour.
Cllr Eric Broadbent said: “It is nice to see a pub opening for once rather than closing down.”
It will be sited over almost one and a half acres on the Discovery Way business park.
Access to the development will be at the back of Cholmley Way and the pub will be opposite the Eskdale Road junction.
Four letters of objection had been received by residents living on Mount Pleasant .
They were concerned about it leading to anti-social behaviour, an increase in traffic, loss of greenspace, impact on wildlife and that there was no need for the extra hotel.
