These new images show how one of Whitby’s most iconic venues will soon look.
The town’s former New Angel Hotel - known locally as The Big A - is due to re-open as a JD Wetherspoon pub and hotel next year.
The historic building is currently undergoing major renovation works by contractors.
A date for the opening - 12 March 2013 - has now been revealed.
And a new name for the pub has also been unveiled - The New Angel.
JD Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told the Whitby Gazette: “We understand that some people in the town are keen for the pub to revert to its original name, The Angel.
“However, we believe the name chosen by Wetherspoon, namely The New Angel pays homage to the pub’s original name, whilst updating it at the same time.”
A recruitment drive for the major British pub chain is already underway.
Whitby Job Centre has advertised for a number of positions at The New Angel with workers initially being paid travel expenses to work at another JD Wetherspoon - The Lord Roseberry - until the The New Angel opens in the New Year.
Planning permission was granted in August, despite opposition from Whitby Town Council and nearby residents living in Jutland House in New Quay Road who were concerned about the noise.
But many have welcome the new pub chain.
Views have poured in on the Whitby Gazette’s Facebook page.
Janet Fielding Was Welford said: “It will always be big A..but the new pub will be great for Whitby...its great food and even better beer at fab prices.”
Jane Mango-Bingo added: “Looking forward to trying it.
“Cheaper pub so it’ll get rammed with rowdies at certain times, some drinkers might go to quieter pubs at busy times meaning there won’t be a negative financial impact on local pubs?”
