A local hotel has been recognised at a prestigious tourism awards ceremony.
The Cliffemount Hotel in Runswick Bay was highly commended in the small hotels category at the White Rose Toursim Awards held in Leeds on Monday night.
It saw off competition from bigger hotels across the region, some of which are Michelin starred, including Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa
The Talbot Hotel and Middlethorpe Hall & Spa.
The accolade went to Swinton Park with the Cliffemount being highly commended after being visited by a mystery shopper.
It is not the first time that the hotel at Runswick Bay has been recognised at the awards so owners Ian and Carol Rae, who have been there for nine years, were even more surprised to be picking up the award.
They attended the ceremony on Monday night with some of their 20 members of staff.
Afterwards they said: “We got highly commended last year as well so we were not expecting it at all. If you saw the other category - it was really hard. They have more bedrooms and Michelin stars.
“Every person that comes in on their own you think is the mystery person - they take everything into account and to get highly commended is wonderful for us. It was an excellent night.”
