A nationwide chain has submitted plans to build a 24-bed hotel and pub in Whitby.

Marston’s Inns and Taverns have submitted the plans to Scarborough Borough Council which would see the hotel being constructed on Whitby Business Park’s Cholmley Way, adjacent to the A171 Stainsacre Lane.

A consultation will now take place until February 19, with a decision set to be made on April 29.

The hotel chain said each public house typically employs between 50 to 60 staff, with 20 of these being full-time positions.

Marston’s operates around 2,150 public houses in the United Kingdom and has 40 hotels.

The company is the UK’s largest builder of new pubs, with a plan to build 60 new food pubs over the next three years.
