ONE of the largest Swedish banks is expanding to cover the Whitby area.

Handelsbanken has a team in Scarborough which will be expanding because of an increase in clients from the Whitby, Pickering, Malton and Filey areas. Handelsbanken has branches throughout the Nordic market and is also represented in 16 other countries.

The Scarborough branch is one of 94 in the country with further branches planned to open in the UK this year.

Russ Grimshaw has joined the team as a Corporate Banking Manager.

Before joining Handelsbanken Scarborough, Russ worked for a major High Street bank for 36 years and in the last 20 years was a corporate banking manager in the Ryedale area.

He will be providing the full range of corporate banking services to business customers, including commercial mortgages, loans and general banking.

Handelsbanken Scarborough’s branch manager Nick Sharples said: “We believe that our expansion is due to the success of our ethical and personal approach towards all of our clients and the way we conduct business.

“As an example, we give clients our personal direct line and email address details, meaning that they can consistently deal with the same people without the need for impersonal centralised services such as call centres.

“In addition, we are passionate about ensuring clients get the most from their banking and our duty of care means that we always provide responsible advice.”
