Gazette sales increase

THE Whitby Gazette is one of only 14 weekly newspapers in the UK to have recorded an increase in sales for the first six months of the year.

Sales of your Friday favourite have gone up by 1.2 per cent according to ABC figures (Audit Bureau of Circulation) with weekly sales averaging 9583 copies.

The figures come after a re-launch of the Whitby Gazette in January which saw it go from being a twice weekly publication to a single bumper issue on a Friday – in a move that has proved popular with readers.

Editor Jon Stokoe said: “We are delighted with the figures which are testament to my small but dedicated and hard-working team of staff.

“Thanks must also go to the readers who buy the paper every week, especially after our relaunch at the beginning of the year.”
