Fuscos represent town in search for nation’s best chippy

THE Fusco family will be crossing their fingers on Tuesday as they wait to discover whether they have been crowned best fish and chip shop in Britain.

Their Quayside takeaway is a finalist at the National Fish and Chip Awards and at the ceremony in London they will discover whether their efforts have paid off.

The final 10 places in the competition were awarded after unannounced visits from industry judges, but the owners will face another test on Monday when they are required to make a presentation to a panel of experts.

Places were awarded regionally, meaning the takeaway is representing the whole of the north east in the competition.

At the surprise visit the takeaway was assessed on a wide criteria which included product quality, customer service, food preparation procedures, hygiene, innovation, staff training and development, promotional activity and approaches to sustainable sourcing.
