GREEN’S Restaurant and The Magpie Cafe, based in Whitby, are among Yorkshire’s finest according to a new guide intended to place the country firmly on the UK’s gastronomic map.
Produced by deliciouslyorkshire, which celebrates and supports the region’s producers, Yorkshire’s Own Kitchen is a bible for locally produced food and drink.
The book features inspiring recipes from the region’s food heroes, and Jonathan Knight, chief executive of deliciouslyorkshire, says the guide reflects the county’s prestigious reputation.
He added: “Yorkshire is not only the UK’s biggest food producing region, as a county it also boasts the most Michelin stars.
“From chocolate to cheese, ales to apples and pies to piccalilli, or members offer an extravaganza of variety and choice.
The two Whitby contributors are included alongside celebrity chef James Martin, star of Saturday Kitchen, who has penned the foreword.
Yorkshire’s Own Kitchen costs £2.95 and is available from the middle of July in food outlets throughout the region.
It will feature at the deliciouslyorkshire cookery theatre in the food hall at the Great Yorkshire Show and is also available at www.deliciouslyorkshire.co.uk.
