A Staithes bistro has celebrated its first anniversary this week - after seeing it stake a claim as the village’s number one eatery.

The Cleveland Corner Bistro and Bed and Breakfast is the top-rated restaurant in Staithes according to independent travel website Tripadvisor.

Located on the Staithes High Street, the restaurant is owned by Rob and Sharon Sim, who moved to the village last year from Manchester.

Sharon said the success of the bistro was down to the amount of passion the couple have in providing a place where they themselves would like to eat.

Despite only being in Staithes a short time, Sharon added that the local community has been extremely welcoming to them, and this has helped the bistro quickly establish itself as a part of village life. She explained: “It’s a really welcoming community.

“It’s not huge and there’s not a huge number of people that live here permanently, but the people that do live here have been very welcoming and supportive.”

Rob and Sharon have filled the intimate eating area with art and have gained an enviable reputation for providing great service, fantastic food - sepcialising in locally-caught fish - and a warm welcome.

Among the reviews on Tripadvisor, the folling comments have been left:

“A lovely meal, friendly owners, and a totally relaxing way to spend an evening.

“Would recommend you try it especially if you like fish.”

“Sharon and Rob have complemented the quirkiness with their great food and warm hosting skills.”

“We had such a lovely night and will definitely make it our local the next time we are lucky enough to stay in beautiful Staithes.”
