UP TO 40 new jobs are being created in Whitby as a company that provides home help-type care expands.
Caremark, based in Guisborough, has won a contract with North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) to provide care to people in Whitby, helping them to stay in their own homes.
A spokesperson for Caremark said the company is expecting to deliver care to a wide range of people living in Whitby and surrounding areas such as Staithes, Sleights and Hinderwell. This will include young people with disabilities, adults with mental health problems and the elderly.
Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland), which has its head office in Guisborough, has already started recruiting new staff and is also making plans to open a small satellite office in the town.
Erika White, from Sleights, is the first local person recruited as part of the new service.
She said: “Caring is something I have always wanted to do and even in such a short space of time I have already been given responsibility for looking after several clients and I am really enjoying my work.”
Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland) Managing Director Charles Folkes said: “We are delighted to win this new contract, which is enabling us to expand into Whitby and its surrounding areas.
“Working closely with the local JobCentre Plus, we have already started to recruit the new carers that will be needed to deliver the significant amount of care we will be providing across the area.
“Our service is very person-centred and flexible, and is designed to meet customer needs and outcomes. Our customers are given full input into the package of care we devise for them and we ensure they have a carer permanently dedicated to them.”
