ONE of Whitby’s favourite pubs remained closed this week as a team of workers ripped out the contents and piled up rubbish in a skip.
A number of skips have been filled with bin bags and items from the Dolphin Hotel, next to the swing bridge, such as chairs, tables, sofas and pub equipment including pans, teapots and cooking gear.
The clear out comes after the pub closed suddenly over three weeks ago with staff only finding out days before.
It was taken back over by the owners, Punch Taverns who told the Gazette last week that the landlord Simon Thomas had left for personal reasons.
At the time the pub company said a new landlord was in place but this week said it was in discussions with potential licensees.
A statement from Punch said: “We are in the process of cleaning out the pub and getting it ready for business for when we get a new operator.
“We are currently talking to potential licensees and plan to re-open the pub as soon as possible.”
