THE FORMER magistrates’ court in Whitby has been sold amid speculation it could be converted into an old people’s home.
The identity of the new owner and the purchase price has not been revealed but the Whitby Gazette understands preliminary talks in relation to planning applications have been held with officers at Scarborough Borough Council (SBC).
Property experts DTZ who marketed the court building on Waterstead Lane confirmed a deal had been done.
Jenny Purple said: “The property is sold subject to contract. It has exchanged and we are in the process between exchange and completion. We are expecting the sale to go through in the next couple of months or so.”
A source at SBC said the authority had had an approach from an interested party in relation to the building.
