REMEDIAL works are set to start in Hinderwell Cemetery next year after a “serious safety issue “ came to light.
Graves in the top section of the cemetery have settled, causing kerb stones to become unstable and paths have become uneven.
Hinderwell Parish Council is proposing a series of works which include permanently removing all kerbstones and levelling the ground, which is says will also ease grasscutting, making the area more visually attractive.
However, the parish council has stressed that headstones will not be interfered with and kerbstones may be claimed by families if they wish.
Legal notices advertising the works will be displayed this month and anyone who wants to discuss the situation can do so. The office is staffed Monday, 9am-1pm and Thursday 6pm-7pm.
A public meeting is due to be held at St Hilda’s Old School in January.
