Swing Bridge operator Alan Wastell has been proclaimed Whitby Leisure Centre’s number one gym user.
The 59-year-old is also a regular freelance photographer at the Whitby Gazette and said he uses the gym “to try to appreciate the health I’ve got and keep it in reasonable condition”. He added: “The gym has a nice atmosphere and the people who go there are friendly.”
The St Hilda’s Gardens resident works on Whitby’s Swing Bridge and is also the son of former mayor Richard Wastell.
Since the refurbishment of the fitness suite in July 2011, the leisure centre has had over 100,000 customers, with around 1,000 users each week.
