WHITBY’S only building society is throwing open its doors and asking members of the public to nominate a local charity to receive £100 as part of its “Make a Difference Week” giveaway.
Until Saturday, Yorkshire Building Society on Flowergate is hosting the giveaway and manager Maxine Hartley said: “This is the perfect chance for people to make a difference to smaller, local charities in Whitby that can often be overlooked for donations.
“We know many charities are struggling at the moment and we want to help as many of them as we can and to do that we need our customers and members of the public to tell us about the charities that are important to them.
“I hope lots of people will take five minutes to pop into our branch and nominate a charity, no matter how big or small, for a bonus festive boost.”
The money that will be donated to the nominated charities comes from the YBS Charitable Foundation, largely funded by the society’s “Small Change, Big Difference” scheme.
This enables members to donate a small portion of their interest to the foundation and last year 1,300 charities each received a £100 donation through the Make a Difference giveaway.
