Bakery saved from closure

A BAKERY in Whitby has been saved from closure after a new buyer stepped in to save the troubled firm.

Scarborough-based Woodhead, which ran a shop in Sandgate, is one of 18 shops which have been bought by fellow Scarborough bakers, Cooplands, which already has a store in the town’s Baxtergate.

The Sandgate-based store began trading as Cooplands yesterday.

Eleven other Woodhead shops have been sold to Midlands-based Bakery Products Limited, a subsidiary of the Haldane Retail Group, including Woodhead’s Scarborough bakery.
