THE Leeway Guesthouse will represent Whitby on a national stage after finishing as runner-up at the White Rose Awards on 10 October.
The Welcome to Yorkshire awards ceremony was held at Doncaster Racecourse and attracted around 1,000 people, with the Havelock Place guest house in Whitby claiming second place in the sustainable tourism award.
This means that they have qualified for the Visit England national awards for excellence, which takes place next May.
Owner Karen Walker said: “It’s a celebratory night for the best of the best, so we’re absolutely chuffed.
“There was only five put through for the whole of Yorkshire, and we were the only Whitby business put through, so to then get the runner-up and qualify for the national is amazing.”
She also hopes that others will follow the Leeway’s lead with regards to energy saving and sustainability, adding: “Everyone can do sustainability.
“We’re just a small business but for our efforts we’ve got to this national awards ceremony.
“Yet it doesn’t cost the Earth to do this so lots of other people could join in.”
