A Whitby building society has given a cash boost to five local causes as it celebrates a milestone anniversary.

Yorkshire Building Society, on Flowergate, joined branches across the country to celebrate 150 years of the society, by calling on members of the public to nominate their favourite charity or worthwhile local cause to receive donations.

The Snowdrop Appeal, St Catherine’s Hospice, The Ellis Hall Memorial Bench Fund, Whitby Community Connections

and Cleveland Search and Rescue were all granted £100 each.

Mark Jackson, manager of the Whitby branch, pictured above right, said: “ I’m sure the money will be used to make a positive difference in our community.”
