Organisers of Whitby Boxing Club’s first ever amateur show have hailed the event as a “fantastic success”.

The club, which was only set up in January, packed out Whitby Pavilion for a sell-out night of action that attracted fighters from around the north of England.

Lynne Butler, founder of the club, said: “The show was a massive success. It went better than we hoped and everyone involved seemed to enjoy it.

“I’m so proud of each and every one of our lads.”

Home fighters Callum Halley and Ashley Whitefoot both won their bouts, while Bailey Olds narrowly lost out on a split decision, but head coach Stewart Lorains was pleased with the efforts of all of his boxers.

“All the lads did brilliantly on what was an absolutely superb night,” he said.

“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors and everyone who supports the club and backed this event, particularly Mike Scaife, Robert Langley and Whitby Lions and all of my coaches.

“Absolutely everyone is welcome at the club, and we are always on the look out for volunteers to come and help out.”
