Sleights Bowling Club members have held their Opening Day of the new season, which started with a coffee morning at the club’s pavilion with an excellent attendance.

The club then presented a cheque for of £2,000 to Mrs Jean Dixon, the representative of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

This amount had been raised by the club at events during the past year, including the Charity Day with the assistance of Castleton Bowling Club members.

Also included in the total was a significant amount raised by Beck Hole Quoits Club and Whitby Rifle Club Indoor Bowls Section.

The club’s president Keith Thompson then bowled the traditional first bowl of the season, but unfortunately there was no further play, due to the saturated state of the bowling green.

The green is now open for play and new members or anyone wishing to give bowling a try will be made very welcome at this beautiful and sheltered location. Times of play are 2pm until 4pm and 6pm until about 8pm every day. For any further information please contact Eddie White Tel. 01947 810024 or Don Isherwood Tel. 01947 601463.
